So first things first... Koda's first puppy class. Well he is definitely the naughty one in the group, but I think he did pretty good. We practiced sit (which Koda already knows pretty well, but getting him to do it when he's super excited is the other part) We also learned lay down (which he also already knows) and then... Heel! Koda knows nothing of heel and I am so super excited to have him learn this one! In the class the instructor uses his perfectly trained show dog to do a demonstration (really this dog is unbelievable!) Which makes Nathan and I laugh every time, seeing as Koda is trying his very hardest to pull, and jump is way over to the dog next to us during this time. After the demonstration we get to practice. Now this is where its funny. We have to start by having Koda sit by our sides and then we start walking and have him "heel". Now we are "supposed to" (key words) keep Koda in a little imaginary box next to our left side, the smaller the box the better. However for Koda the moment we start to walk he pulls in every way to get to another dog, like really every way... then you have him "halt" and we have him "supposedly" sit next to our side again. Then once we are done with having him sit we are to say "okay" which is the release word, and after that you give them praise for doing so well. So for Koda once I say "halt" and try to get him to sit, it usually ends up with him on his back kicking and biting me. Once I FINALLY get him to sit and say his "okay", does he want pets and loves? Oh no he bolts for the other dogs. So comical? Yes.But he did (if he could focus) have a few good go's at it and Nathan and I will be practcing a lot with him at home. So wish me luck, I hope it will only get better from here!
